Computing Optical Flow via Variational Techniques
نویسندگان
چکیده
Deened as the apparent motion in a sequence of images, the optical ow is very important in the Computer Vision community where its accurate estimation is strongly needed for many applications. It is one of the most studied problem in Computer Vision. In spite of this, not much theoretical analysis has been done. In this article, we rst present a review of existing variational methods. Then, we will propose an extended model that will be rigorously justiied on the space of functions of bounded variations. Finally, we present an algorithm whose convergence will be carefully demonstrated. Some results showing the capabilities of this method will end that work.

Illumination-Robust Variational Optical Flow with Photometric Invariants
Since years variational methods belong to the most accurate techniques for computing the optical flow in image sequences. However, if based on the grey value constancy assumption only, such techniques are not robust enough to cope with typical illumination changes in real-world data. In our paper we tackle this problem in two ways: First we discuss different photometric invariants for the desig...
متن کاملVariational Optic Flow Computation: From Continuous Models to Algorithms
Variational methods belong to the most successful techniques for computing the displacement field in image sequences. In this paper we analyse the different terms in the energy functional and sketch some of our recent contributions in this area.
متن کاملMoving Objects Segmentation Using Optical Flow Estimation
In this paper, we present a new method for the segmentation of moving objects. We use one of the most powerful variational method for computing the optical flow and we exploit this information in the segmentation. This segmentation lies on well-known techniques of active contours. Since we can distinguish moving objects from static elements of a scene by analyzing norm of the optical flow vecto...
متن کاملTemporal Prediction and Spatial Regularization in Differential Optical Flow
In this paper we present an extension to the Bayesian formulation of multi-scale differential optical flow estimation by Simoncelli et. al.[1]. We exploit the observation that optical flow is consistent in consecutive time frames and thus propagating information over time should improve the quality of the flow estimation. This propagation is formulated via insertion of additional Kalman filters...
متن کاملA Total-Variation Regularized Optical Flow Approach to Computing Density Dynamics and Transport Study
Classical optical flow techniques were developed for computing virtual motion fields between two images of the same scene, assuming conservation of intensity and a smoothness of the flow field. If these assumptions are dropped, similar techniques can be used to compute apparent flows between time snapshots of data that do not come from images, even if these flows are turbulent and divergent. In...
